First and foremost, you need to make sure that where you are and where you plan to bet, betting is legal and sanctioned by the place where you are in. otherwise, you will be engaging in illegal activity.
One way that you can make sure that you are going to make a football bet legally, is that you should do it on a recognized and famous place, an example could be sports casinos.

Then, you should know how much you can win and how much you can lose. For example, you bet $100. When your team wins you get $210. However, when your team loses, you lose $110.

Another thing that should understand is the meaning of point spread. Contrary to what most people believe, this is not the amount of lead that the other team has while winning over the other team. This is basically the range of possible outcomes of a game. It means that for example, you bet on a team that is favored to win, by 6 but they only win by 2, you lose. However, if you bet on a team which is predicted to lose, and they win by a certain point, you win.

There are different types of bets that you should know in order to make a good decision on how much to bet and which team to bet on or bet against.

There is a variety called straight bet. This is a bet on the possible outcomes of a game. One way that you can do this is whether to bet over or under the score of the game. The scores of both teams are then totaled. If you bet on the over, this means that you bet that the score of a team will be higher than the totaled scores. And if you bet under, you are betting that the score is lower than the scores of both teams summed up.

Another type of football bet is a parlay. This is more than just a bet on a single game. In here, you bet several times for as many games as agreed upon. Also it may include a combination of different betting types. However, it may be a little difficult to win this type. When you bet on a parlay for a team to win, they must win all the games. And if ever they lose even just a single game, you will lose the bet.

In making a football bet, in the end, it does also need a lot of strategizing and studying your teams and bets.
